Casting news on the new gilbert appearing on TVD

There's another Gilbert coming to Mystic Falls. Newcomer Lindsey R. Garrett has been cast on The Vampire Diaries as Samantha Gilbert, TVGuide.com has learned exclusively. Samantha, in her 20s, is described as a bit of a gossip, but don't expect her to cross paths with Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) anytime soon. She'll appear only during flashbacks in the episode titled "1912," airing at the end of February, as one of the town's founding family members who interacts with both Salvatore brothers.

Klaus, Katherine, Stefan and Damon included in SFX's top 50 Vampires 2012

So the dashing Stefan played by Paul Wesley entered SFX's list at #15 heres what they had to say " The Vampire Diaries has been the real success story of this poll, with Stefan being the first of multiple characters from the show who barely registered with our voters last time around but who now dominate the upper reaches of this latest Top 50. Poor old Paul Wesley was hampered with the less interesting brother to play out of the Salvatore brothers, a wet Luke Skywalker (with Will Shuester hair) to Damon’s roguish Han Solo, and it’s easy to underestimate what a great job Wesley did bringing some charisma and wit to the role. But recently, Stefan has gone all Angelus on us, and Wesley looks like he’s having a blast being all randomly evil. If they don’t turn him back, he could place even higher next time."

While Klaus played by the marvellous Joseph Morgan scooped #7
"After suffering the ignominy of being introduced to the series in the guise of one of its dullest characters (though for a scant few weeks Alaric actually seemed interesting), Klaus emerged in the flesh as the lanky lead singer of a British indie band who probably spends his time off surfing in New Quay. Initially, the idea that we were supposed to take this guy as a serious big bad seemed ludicrous. It was like getting Chris Martin of Coldplay to play a werewolf (oh, hang on… Lost Girl’s done that). But rapidly, Klaus was revealed his true colours – mostly blood red and a black, black heart. Callously evil to a jawdropping extent, Klaus will slice someone in half or use them as a dartboard just because he feels like it. He looks rubbish in his flashback wigs, though. It’s a tradition amongst small-screen vampires, clearly."

our sassy Katherine played by the stunning Nina Dobrev came in at #6
"The evil vampire doppelganger of The Vampire Diaries’ Elena, Katherine has been spelling double trouble for the Salvatore brothers ever since she sired them. She really fancies Stefan, but isn’t averse to leading Damon up the garden path when it suits her. Amoral, self-seeking and outrageously flirtatious, she looks great in a 19th century frock and is useful as an Elena stand-in when the show needs to shock you into thinking Elena’s been killed."

BUT it was our deliciously dashing Damon played by the gorgeous Ian Somerhalder who scooped the #1 spot beating out tough competition
"So here he is. The man who’s has deposed Spike from the number one spot. And who could begrudge him? Damon is the new Spike: bad boy? Check. Sharp wit? Check. Willingness to go shirtless? Check? Initially loathed by the show’s heroine but now looking more likely to get in her knickers? Check. Cheekbones? Well… they’re not in the Spike league, but Damon has his fruit machine eyes instead, rolling in ways that seem beyond human abilities. There’s little doubt that Damon has been a major part in The Vampire Diaries’ success, and Ian Somerhalder has played him like a man gripping onto a buck bronco like his life depends on it. Somerhalder has moaned a bit lately that Damon gets beaten up once too often in the show, and he has a point. So expect some more ass-kicking in future, which can only consolidate his pole position, surely?"

Nina Dobrev covers Nylon Magazines February 2012 issue

On doing more films
“I want to become a different person, and that’s what working in film allows. I want to be a punk or a sweetheart or a drug addict! There are so many things to explore... Sometimes they’ll be like, ‘She’s not plain enough.’ Or ‘She’s not edgy enough.' That frustrates me. I feel like a blank canvas, and I wish people would be a little more open-minded.”

On her pet cats
“I’m gonna say [I am a] ‘cat woman,’ because ‘cat lady’ makes me sound 500 years old... But I love my furry friends. I even made a calendar for 2012. It’s calledMy Pussies: A Hairy Love Story. [Cats] just migrate to me. I’m pretty sure I was a cat in a past life.”

On her former Degrassi costar, Aubrey Graham (Drake.) "He was so sweet. It’s almost weird to me that he’s a rapper and a sex symbol now. I remember being in the car going to a party, singing along with the radio, and somebody said ‘Isn’t that your buddy Drake?’ I was like, ‘Who’s Drake?'”

On being really famous.
"I can’t say I’m not interested in Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt and their family. But it’s something you fight really hard to preserve and keep private.”

Paul Wesley talks hostile Stefan

When we talked to Paul Wesley about this Thursday’s episode ofThe Vampire Diaries – the one in which Stefan mentions turning Elena (Nina Dobrev) into a vampire, bites his wrist, and may force her to drink his blood in a speeding vehicle – he hadn’t seen it. He had, however, received a call from TVD exec producer Julie Plec to tell him the intense moments between Stefan and Elena were some of her favorite scenes. “He’s essentially kidnapping her,” Wesley says. “There’s layers of humanity, regret, and sadness in his eyes, but it’s all sort of masked by this sociopathic, raging maniac who’s scaring her to death. His relationship [with Elena] is sort of the antithesis of what it was, which was this really romantic, soft, protective relationship. Elena is the key to everything [in his battle with Klaus], and Stefan will go to any extreme to get what he needs, which makes him much more terrifying.”

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: It’s an interesting turn in Stefan’s arc that it’s after his humanity begins to creep back in and he saves Damon that he becomes more of a villain than he ever was when the switch was fully in the ‘off’ position.
PAUL WESLEY: He reveals that if he lets any emotions or feelings in, all he feels is deep pain and regret, so he doesn’t want to go there. He’d prefer to just sort of rationalize it by being… incredibly hostile. [Laughs]Are we going to cry watching this episode?
Who’s we? [Laughs] It depends on how susceptible you are to the Stefan-Elena love story/tragedy.

Well, I talked to Plec about scenes on the show that have made her cry, and you got us both with that call Stefan made to Elena on her 18th birthday — and you didn’t even speak.
Ah, that’s cool. I think any time anybody sees the bad guy show emotion and you’re not hitting the audience over the head, there’s always a tinge of empathy for that individual. So if we did it correctly, and Stefan shows his humanity in the most subtle ways, and we don’t hit the audience over the head with ‘Oh, feel bad for me, I’m a tortured soul,’ then I think it will be effective. But again, I haven’t seen it. But supposedly it’s great. [Laughs]

I was surprised that Stefan agreed to let Damon join forces with him so quickly in last week’s episode. What’s your theory there: Did he realize he needs minions like Klaus has, or was it simply better to give Damon something to do so Damon doesn’t do something on his own that jeopardizes Stefan’s plan?
It is interesting: In that scene, all of the sudden he’s like, “You want in? Okay, I’ll let you in on this.” Maybe it’s because he wants to be closer to Elena. Maybe it’s because [this is the one time] you keep your friends closer than your enemies. It’s his brother. They’re buddies. You can justify it so many different ways. I really have no idea.

Early in season 2, you sat down with Plec and said that while you love Stefan’s heroic side, as an actor, you’d love to dirty him up a bit. She told you she and Kevin Williamson already had that in the works. Has this arc turned out to be everything you hoped for?
Yeah, I don’t want the arc to end. I don’t want to go back to being the good guy. Look, Julie said we’re gonna milk it as long as we can. I also understand that things get old. Hopefully this is still new and fresh. You know, he was the good guy for two years. Maybe I can do another two years as the bad guy to balance it out. [Laughs] I think everybody likes playing the bad boy.And everybody likes watching the bad boy.
I was talking to Torrey [DeVitto, his wife, who's now recurring on the show as Dr. Fell], and she’s like, “You know, I watch Vampire Diaries all the time. I’ve always enjoyed watching Stefan. But now that you’re playing him as the bad guy, it’s, like, infinitely more entertaining and pleasurable to watch.” [Laughs] I’m thinkin’ to myself, it’s so funny, you’d think the girls would enjoy the good guy, the hero, the protagonist. But it’s like, no, that’s why nice guys finish last. [Laughs] It’s really true. And as an actor, it’s just so much more enjoyable.

With Stefan, it’s really the best of both worlds: He’s a bad boy, but we don’t have to feel guilty for enjoying him because we refuse to believe Good Stefan isn’t under there somewhere.
I refuse to believe that he’s not under there either.
