Zap2it set the record straight on recent TVD rumours

"Vampire Diaries" fans, you're suffering through yet another hiatus at the moment, and we sympathize. We know you're fiending for any spoilery tidbit you can get about the episodes coming up after the break, and we're here to help you wade through all the rumors and figure out what's real and what's not. March 15 will come before you know it!

First of all, yes, it's true that the Gilbert parents, Miranda and Grayson, are currently being cast. Of course, these are Elena's adoptive parents (and Jeremy's biological ones!) who died when their car crashed off Wickery Bridge before the pilot. With Wickery Bridge in the process of being restored after the fundraiser, we're leading up to a big unveiling, which is sure to bring back memories for Elena.

Fans can expect to see a flashback to the night that they died, when Stefan tried to save Elena's father -- but Grayson insisted that he save Elena, instead. As reported by E!, the actors have been asked to take scuba lessons for the underwater sequences, though our girlNina Dobrev already has her certification, so she's all set.

(Any casting suggestions, TVD fans? Remember, they've got to be hot enough to be Jeremy's parents. Not to mention, Mr. Gilbert's got some pretty big shoes to fill as the older brother to David Anders' Uncle John.)

We'll definitely get some new information about that time in Elena's life that will impact the way we view Mystic Falls today. "The great rule of storytelling is... don't flash back if there's nothing that's going to change your life moving forward," executive producer Julie Plec says. "We'll have to see what we can uncover about that past that can would impact us today."

But we can promise you one thing: We're not going to discover that Elena's parents are, somehow, still alive. The actors cast as the Gilberts will be seen only in flashback.

"If it [ever] turns out Elena's parents aren't dead... I will probably be in retirement on a beach in Hawaii, and somebody else will be running the show," Plec assures us. "Elena's parents are dead, and it was a human accident, and a human tragedy. The night that Stefan pulled her out of the water and saved her life was the beginning of their love story, so I would certainly like to return to that night at some point and know more about it."

In other flashback news, we promised you that we would see Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) before the end of the season -- but we didn't promise you we'd see him in the present day. We're not entirely sure how McQueen is going to pull off playing 14 again, but Jeremy was generally pretty stoned back then, so maybe the magic of makeup will hide the fact that he's all man now.

You know we're pulling for some Matt/Elena scenes, too... but no official word on that yet! Consider our fingers crossed.

As for the rest of the rumored spoilers -- tread lightly. There's a lot of false information out there (and Perez Hilton's "source close to production" is not particularly close to production at all). We don't want you to get your hopes up for something (or start worrying about an upcoming death!) if it's not in the cards.

Here's what we can tell you: When Michael Trevino told us that Tyler, Klaus, and Caroline would never be part of a real love triangle, he clearly hadn't yet received the scripts for his return episodes! Tyler is coming back in a very big way, and the dynamic between him and Klaus is going to shift significantly. Right now, we're hearing that Caroline's heart remains with Tyler, despite Klaus' increasingly charming plays for her affection. Still, Klaus doesn't seem to be the type to give up easily.

Oh, was there another love triangle you wanted to hear about?

Delena fans, don't pack up your toys and go home quite yet. Though Damon and Elena aren't on the best of terms right now, things are going to grow more intense between them -- if that's at all possible! Though revisiting the car crash may stir up some feelings for Stefan and Elena, there are some passionate, powerful scenes coming up for her and Damon, too.

Let's just say that while he may have given up on pursuing her for the greater good, she's not quite ready to let him go yet.

So Zap2it once again give us the scoop on what we have to look forward to from thursdays TVD return. sounds like lots of drama, decision making and of course Delena (rejoice fellow delena fans) :D read on to find out more :

"1. Klaus (Joseph Morgan) has a domestic side. We're almost nervous to admit it, but our big bad wolf has become one of the most complex characters on television right now. The way that his vulnerability and villainy tangle up together is fascinating to watch. With his father out of the picture, Klaus has big plans to reunite his remaining family members -- complete with a dream house in the town where they last loved each other as humans. It's poetic, really.

2. Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) spirals out of control. We're talking old school Jeremy, minus the nail polish. He's flunking out of school, he got fired from his job... and things go from bad to worse when he starts hanging out with Tyler (Michael Trevino) again. Elena (Nina Dobrev) tries to intervene, but when she sees Jeremy in a gruesome confrontation with a hybrid, it becomes pretty clear that he's on the verge of losing any chance at happiness.

3. The romantic tension between Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Elena gets even more epic. The connection between them now runs deeper than the whole lusty, let's-stand-a-little-too-close-together-and-stare-at-each-other's-mouths thing that they've been doing for the last two years. While their loyalty to Stefan (Paul Wesley) may be threadbare at this point, it is there -- particularly once Damon learns that Stefan only saved Klaus to spare Damon. Delena has a dilemma, y'all! Before the hour is over, one of them is going to make a major decision that has to do with their relationship and their relationship with Stefan.

4. A little clarity. We'll find out much more about siring and what it means to Tyler that Klaus is his sire -- he'll even explain the key differences between compulsion and siring. (Sort of. Let's just say the line is a little blurry.) Tyler's loyalty is tested several times in the episode... and as far as Elena and Alaric (Matt Davis) are concerned, he definitely fails some of the tests. We're not sure this bodes well for his relationship with Caroline (Candice Accola), who isn't in this episode.

5. Say goodbye. One of our favorite characters is saying goodbye to Mystic Falls -- possibly forever, in a scene that totally made us cry, and is making us cry again right now, just writing about it. (We know there are rumors out there that Damon does something unpleasant to force the character out of town -- this isn't the case, Damon fans. Your boy is a true gentleman in this episode.)"

Julie plec dishes to Zap2it what to expect when TVD returns in january

So zap2it caught up with Julie plec to find out what is in store for us when TVD returns on January 5th heres the scoop:

"Confession: We weren't too upset about "The Vampire Diaries" going on hiatus for the holiday season. This season has been so fast-paced (read: awesome) that we needed a breather to collect our thoughts!

That relief lasted about five minutes before we started getting antsy for more Mystic Falls. There's still a month left before "TVD" returns to our screens at 8 p.m. on January 5, but our withdrawal symptoms were flaring up, so we thought it was about time to check in with executive producer Julie Plec. Julie gave Zap2it a ring from Atlanta where the cast was hard at work on episode 314.

Looking back on some of the things we've loved about Season 3, Elena's (Nina Dobrev) evolution is high on our list. In the first episode, we found her having spent a summer pining for Stefan (Paul Wesley). As the season soldiered on, however, she finally emerged from her cloud of denial. Finally, she put her foot down and gave Stefan an ultimatum.

"She said to him back in Episode 7 that she can't love a ghost for the rest of her life. She said, 'Get it together or you will lose me.' She threw down," Julie says. "She gave him a chance to let his humanity come through and break through, and he didn't, in her eyes. She has to move forward."

In the mid-season finale, Elena finally decided to let Stefan go -- and yes, she meant it. Damon (Ian Somerhalder) on the other hand is having a little trouble coping with the apparent loss of his little bro. "When we come back from hiatus, Damon is doing what Damon does best when someone pisses him off: He's day-drinking," Julie laughs. "He's seen neither hide nor hair of Stefan since he ruined their plan and got his freedom from Klaus (Joseph Morgan), and Damon and Elena are kind of spiraling a little bit. They don't know where he is or why he betrayed them. All they know is that he has completely screwed them over and they have to move on."

And move on they do, albeit "under a cloak of fear and paranoia," Plec says, because as usual, they're waiting for the other shoe to drop as Klaus seeks his revenge on them for the whole Papa Original debacle.

Terror reigns in Mystic Falls, but that doesn't mean that there's no room for romance amidst the madness.

"When we come back in Episode 10, Elena and Damon are finding themselves in these moments where the romantic tension is a little bit deeper and the physical tension is a little bit hotter," Julie teases. (We know what you're thinking. Hotter? How is that even possible? Trust us... it is.)

Though Stefan is out of the picture, Damon and Elena continue to spend time together. "They have to work together against Klaus, so they keep finding themselves in these moments that they're now both free to act on, without guilt."

Of course, Stefan never stays gone for long. At some point, it will be revealed that his big "betrayal" at Homecoming was for Damon's benefit. "Eventually, somebody is going to found out that Stefan saved Damon's life, and Damon and Elena are going to have that to contend with," Julie says. "They're going to have some choices to make."

Though we're antsy for Damon and Elena to move forward (there are only so many almost-kisses the audience can handle) there's no denying that Stefan's evolution has been one of the most intriguing parts of Season 3.

Julie agrees. "For me, the biggest pleasure of the season -- which I won't say is totally a surprise because theoretically we knew that he had this in him -- is watching Paul Wesley do what he's done. It's been kind of thrilling," she says. "I love me some Paul! I think he's a wonderful actor, and to really see him get to explode on screen has been so exciting and so intense and emotional. I'm really proud of him. I'm proud of the show, in a way, because that storyline really worked the way that we wanted it work."

Now that Stefan is free of Klaus's compulsion, we'll continue to see that bad-ass Ripper we've come to love watching on screen.

And by "love," we also kind of mean "hate," because as magnificent as Paul is in the role, it breaks our heart to see Stefan as icy cold as he's been in the last few episodes. "It's awful! I think what's so great about it is watching him be both completely, horrifically detached, but also those moments where you kind of get the glimpse of something pure under there," Julie says. "They're little moments, and they're so rare and so hidden, so it's very much a testament to him as an actor and to what he's putting into the character, because that's not something that you can necessarily write."

Klaus's reactions to the changes in Stefan drove their relationship in the first half of the season. Now that Stefan has turned on Klaus -- which Klaus wasn't expecting when he freed Stefan -- we're going to see an epic clash.

"We have not seen the worst of Klaus. We also have not seen the worst of Stefan taking on Klaus," Julie tells us. "One of the fun things we're doing when we come back in January is taking the pissing contest -- I guess that's the best term for it -- between Stefan and Klaus to a whole other level. Watching these powerful characters and these powerful actors go head-to-head is going to be awesome."

Stefan isn't used to being the antagonist, and as he seeks rage-fueled revenge on Klaus, he'll discover that Klaus may be even more manipulative than he'd thought. In fact, Klaus sets a plan in motion to turn Mystic Falls itself against Stefan, ripping his home away from him the way that Stefan has hijacked Klaus's family.

"There's a moment where Damon's at a cocktail party and sees Mayor Lockwood chatting with Klaus, and Damon's like 'What the hell are you doing? He's ruined your son's life, he's ruined all of our lives,'" Julie says. "[Mayor Lockwood] says, 'Klaus has offered to leave me, my family, and this town alone if you can get your brother to behave.' So we start to see this manipulation that Klaus has in the town of Mystic Falls, and now that Stefan's pushing back, Klaus is able to step forward and say, 'Hey, I'm not here to cause a problem! Stefan Salvatore is the problem.'"

Zap2its 5 reasons to watch TVD tonight and boy are they good ones

1. We'll finally learn why Klaus chose Stefan. There's a very specific reason why Stefan is currently Klaus's co-pilot, and when we flash back to the 1920s, we'll learn what it is about Stefan that appeals so much to Klaus's inner sociopath. We hope Paul Wesley sent the TVD writers flowers for giving him such dirty, delicious material to work with in this episode.

2. Damon and Elena, in bed together. Hold your horny little horses: All clothes are on. But it does happen, however briefly. (There's plenty of time for you to screen-grab it and plaster song lyrics on it and pass it all around Tumblr, kids.) Damon also has some of his best lines ever in this episode, and we see some great interaction between him and Klaus.

3. Some new faces... and some old ones. We'll see a couple characters who have been MIA from Season 3, but more importantly, we'll meet some very important new characters who will have a pivotal role in Klaus and Stefan's mission moving forward. One of those characters, as has already been revealed, is Rebekah -- and we can't wait until you all see the chemistry she has with Stefan. The words "burning hot" come to mind.

4. Jewelry is never just jewelry on this show. There are magic rings, magic bracelets... we're starting to believe Matt's watch turns humans into unicorns if you wind it right. The vervain necklace that means so much to Elena turns out to be far more important than we realized. In Mystic Falls, when your boyfriend gives you a present, you should probably just assume it's full of secrets.

5. Caroline will break your heart... in a good way. Candice Accola's work in this episode is her best ever -- yes, best ever. At The CW offices today, we heard plenty of sniffles around the room during more than one of her scenes. As revealed in the teaser trailer, Caroline's father is going try to "fix" -- not kill -- her. We won't give away whether or not he succeeds, but we can say that his actions are incredibly painful to watch. We're still a little hurty in the heart area. (And yes... Tyler remains adorable.)

all amazing reasons and can i say OMG damon and elena in bed :o what does this mean ? lol i can tell im gonna be crying during the caroline scenes im sure this is gonna be candice's shining episode not that she doesnt shine every other episode. Im so looking forward to seeing the 1920s flashbacks as im sure they are gorgeous and judging by what nina said in her E talk interview its all very sexy. Im glad we finally get to find out why klaus choose stefan as his partner in crime too and WTH is this about elenas necklace holding secrets ? just when you thought there surely couldn't be anymore secrets but hey this is the vampire diaries lol.

Ian on Damons birthday present to Elena

Zap2it spoke with Ian Somerhalder on Tuesday, we grilled him on all things Damon and Elena (Nina Dobrev). As we know, Season 3 begins with Elena's 18th birthday party, an impressive soiree that Caroline plans -- of course -- at the Salvatore house.

We're sure Elena will get plenty of birthday presents, since she's clearly the most beloved person in Mystic Falls, ever, but with Stefan missing in action, the gift we're wondering about the most is Damon's.

Somerhalder tells us that the present is rather unconventional. "She refuses to let him buy her anything, so he doesn't technically give her anything for her birthday," he says. "But he came across something that she really, really, really wanted and needed, and he did what he had to do to get it for her. She thinks that he stole it, or that he found it. It's a very beautiful moment between them. It's a really sweet, quiet moment."

The gift will definitely remind us of Stefan's absence, but we'll say this about the scene: it's practically tailor-made to be plastered all over your tumblrs, Damon/Elena fans.

Info on "the sun also rises" plus finale talk

"The Vampire Diaries" shocked us all. If you haven't seen it yet because you're waiting to catch up on your DVR or because it has yet to air where you live, this is your spoiler warning! This article contains a lot of spoilers for the April 28 episode "The Last Day."

Damon's shocking, rash decision to feed Elena his blood at the beginning of the episode definitely changed things between him and Elena -- and just when we were starting to see her show him a little affection! As executive producer Julie Plecexplains, Damon did it because he loves Elena -- and because he's so damaged that he doesn't really understand how to handle that

He almost immediately regrets his decision, which shows that while he may not necessarily have mastered impulse control, he's certainly come a long way toward understanding the difference between right and wrong.

"Damon deserves to be loved," Plec says. "Damon deserves a lot of things, but Damon's still got issues. This thing he did to Elena is his biggest lesson to learn, in that you can love someone, with all the power in your soul, but you still have to remember who they are and what they want. we talked about it like turning off the life support on a coma patient, a loved one. What were their instructions? In brain death, do you keep them on life support because you can't say goodbye or do you give them their wish?"

Some viewers have felt that Stefan wasn't being proactive enough in saving Elena from Klaus, but his willingness to let Elena make decisions illustrates the key difference between the two characters.

"That's the difference right now between Stefan and Damon in that Stefan sees that in love, you have to take the other person's wishes into consideration. And Damon, because he's been so screwed in the head by love, and it's his Achilles heel, this episode was about him learning that lesson."

The twist gave us a chance to learn Elena's true feelings about becoming a vampire. When we spoke with Nina Dobrev during the filming of this episode, she explained Elena's feelings. "She's 17 years old. She loves Stefan so, so much, but she's kind of figuring out that there's always the Damon thing, there's always the age difference, and the fact that she hasn't lived her life yet. [Stefan has] had a lot of time to figure out his life and experience things and decide that he loves her."

Plec echoes that sentiment. "When we started this show the similarities with 'Twilight' were so extreme. This was our way of closing the book on that chapter of the similarities, because for Elena to say, 'I've never even wanted this for a minute. I'm still a kid and I still have choices to make in my life, choices that I wanted to make' -- I love that about Elena and I think that's so beautiful. We're happy to be able to let her have that introspection, when the choice has already been made for her."

The finale is about Damon's search for forgiveness. Now that he's been bitten by Tyler and he's facing his own mortality for the first time in a century and a half, he has one dying wish.

"I can't die with you hating me," Plec says. "That's his point."

Next week's episode, "The Sun Also Rises," will feature the sacrifice ritual. It's a high-action episode that easily could've served as the Season 2 finale, but Plec says that they needed another episode for Damon's emotional payoff.

"Next week's episode is enormous and emotional and that could've been it, that could've been the end of the season. But when we started the season, Stefan said to Damon, 'For the first time I see you starting to feel something, and starting to care. Do not let this ruin you. Do not let Katherine ruin you. Do not let any of this come between us. Do not take a step backward,'" she explains. "Here we are, we've come full circle, and he's made so many choices, and screwed up, and now he's at the end of his life, so he believes. He needs to come to terms with all the decisions that he's made in the year - and not just in the year, but since Katherine seduced him 145 years ago."

Stefan's journey in the finale is also one of redemption. He still feels the guilt of being a catalyst for Damon turning 145 years ago, as we saw in this episode when he shouted at Damon, "How could you, of all people, take that choice away from her?" He still remembers the fact that he took the choice from his brother so many years ago.

Now, as Damon revisits the past and seeks Elena's forgiveness, Stefan will try to do the impossible. "Stefan is determined to do anything possible to save his brother," Plec says. "Stefan's cross to bear is 'Wait a second, my brother's finally showing his humanity, that I took away from him 145 years ago -- I can't let him die now.' But there's no cure. So what the hell's he going to do? That's the finale."
