Better quality : The Vampire Diaries - Daddy Issues Preview

Wetpaint's Top 5 OMG moments from "the descent"

Damon and Jessica Season 2, Episode 12: "The Descent"
We love those moments on The Vampire Diaries that make us gasp, pause, and rewind — andEpisode 2.12, “The Descent,” was chock full of them. Here are the five scenes that left us with our jaws agape this week.

5. It’s complicated
Teen love can be confusing — which is why Caroline took off running after Matt kissed her. Still, that’s pretty harsh! So we totally get why Matt cornered her to ask why. “How’d you feel?” he said. “I feel like I… I love you,” Caroline replied, as if it hurt to utter that phrase. Normally the L-word is a good thing. But coupling it with tears and a negative shake of the head was not what Matt wanted to see. “Then what’s the problem?” Matt asked. “If you love me then tell me.” Poor thing. He thinks he’s so strong. He wants to salve Carolines’s pain. But we seriously doubt that he can handle this truth. And, speaking of truth… (See OMG No. 4)

4. This dog bites
Again, we’ve gotta give it to the she-wolf Jules. Not only did the furry femme stick around after Damon told her not to, she called for back-up and put her own plan in motion by dropping a M-is-for-murder bomb on Tyler. She told him that not only has Uncle Mason joined his father at the Lockwood estate in the sky, but that “the little blonde vampire” and her vamp friends put Mason in his grave. Now, remember she’s saying this about the chick Ty just spent the most intimate night of his life with. And, yes, we count changing into a werewolf in front of someone as a intimate thing. (You know how dudes are. They don’t like to share their emotions, let alone life-altering events.)

3. Just say Uncle
On a quest to figure out a way to save Elena from the whole Klaus sacrifice thing, Stefan left town, looking for E’s birth mother Isobel. But he came back with her treacherous Uncle-Daddy John. What? Yeah, that cliffhanger’s got us baffled too. Last time we checked, Stefan threatened to turn Uncle John into a vampire if he didn’t get leave Mystic Falls — and Elena — alone foreva-eva. Yet now he’s bringing the dude back? This better be good.

2. A rose by any other name…
The proverbial “they” weren’t kidding about werewolf bites. One little nip-nip really is lethal to a vampire — in the most dramatic of ways. Rose’s swan song was a gut-wrenching tragedy. In addition to a rash that turned into rotting flesh, she suffered dementia, cold sweats, and a rabid blood thirst. But her final moment was a tender one. Curled up in Damon’s arms, she flashed back to her human days, spending her last undead moments basking in the warm glow of the sun. We doubt she even felt Damon stake her. R.I.P, Rose.

1. Embrace the evil within
We thought some event involving Elena would send Damon over the edge. But, no, it was Rose and her painful death that broke our boy. After he ushered his friend into the Great Beyond, the elder Salvatore lost it. “It was supposed to be me,” he told Elena. “Jules was coming after me.” Overcome with guilt over Rose’s death and tired of dealing with all those other pesky emotions, he got stupid drunk then laid in the middle of the road. “I’m lost,” he told the good samaritan who stopped to help. “Metaphorically. Existentially.” Seconds later the vampire found himself. Well, his evil self. “I’m not human. And I miss it. I miss it more than anything in the world,” he confessed to the passerby “But there’s only so much hurt one man can take.” Then he killed her. Her name was Jessica.

My review for TVD "the descent"

BTS on Nina's Elle shoot

Ian is rooting for Delena ?

Somerhalder says we're likely to see Damon attempt to be more closed off, like he was when we first met him in the first season. "He is trying to be flippant, he is trying to be as deflective as he can while enjoying himself, and seducing women and compelling journalists and getting his way, kind of being a dick in many ways," he says. In other words, he's trying to be someone Elena doesn't necessarily want to be around.

One problem -- try as he might to be the selfish, reckless man he once was, his attachment to her just won't let him cross that line. "At the end of the day, as opposed to him and his love for Katherine being the motive, it's him and his love and protection mode for Elena as well. It's not just to win. It's not just to slay everybody."

Damon isn't going to actively go after his brother's girl in the near future, though. He recognizes that he and Stefan need to team up and be on the same page if they have any hope of keeping Elena safe.

Meanwhile, that wall that Damon is trying so hard to keep up is no match for Elena's charms.

"As much of a dick as he is to her, and as many problems as he actually causes her, she inexorably, always, at the end of the day, feels for him and expresses that feeling and sort of love, in a way," Somerhalder says. "He always, always will deflect, and she tries to break down that barrier, not with much success, much to her chagrin, but she does attempt to."

After all, Damon isn't the only one in that non-relationship who is vulnerable. It's become increasingly clear that Elena's guard is up, too. For now. "She's starting to chip away at his wall, and in the same sense, he's starting to chip away at her wall," he tells us.

Ian filmed "the descent" with walking pneumonia but still kicked ass

Poor Ian Somerhalder was sick while filming the episode! As his Twitter followers may recall, Ian was battling a case of walking pneumonia late last year. The descent marks the last one he shot while sick.

Ian tells Entertainment Weekly, “It was a battle. There was nothing I could do. First of all, you have to take a bunch of medications so you can actually speak and breathe, and that dopes you up, and then you’re like one of those little bobblehead Chihuahuas. You’re just kinda goin’. When you can’t breathe out of your nose, or you have a mouth full of cough drops so you’re not coughing through the entire scene, it makes it difficult. I’m not making excuses for any kind of bad performance, but it just leveled me, and it leveled Damon."

But Ian wasn't about to let some minor lung infection get in the way of his TVD duties! The actor rallied to film the episode and says, "It was a very emotional Damon episode, and I just wouldn’t allow it. I literally sat in my sauna for over an hour a day and sweated everything out.” Sorry, we just need a minute to visualize Ian shirtless and sweating in a sauna... hmmmm the images in my head right now lol :p

He has since made a full recovery. He says, "But it’s gone, and I’m done with it. So I’m not gonna be boring anymore.”

After getting the truth out of Luka (guest star Bryton James), Jonas (guest star Randy Goodwin) makes his feelings clear to Bonnie (Katerina Graham) and Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen). New Ian somerhalder interview

When Lost ended you said you took a lot from Josh Holloway’s character of Sawyer for Damon. Are you still taking pieces of that character in your portrayal of Damon?
I don’t know if I took anything from it. I wanted it.

You wanted to be the bad boy?
I wanted it. And I got it. Times 100. Which is pretty awesome. Minus the red neck. Which I love red necks, basically my entire family are red necks.

Damon’s compassion and humanity has shone through this season.
Unfortunately, that’s her fault by the way (points to Julie Plec, one of the show’s creators who was in the room with us at the time).

How do you think he’s changed and evolved since day 1?
Wow. A lot actually. It was kind of crazy for me initially. I realized what was going to make Damon interesting was to make sure that he was conflicted and he’s starting to feel things that he hates. He doesn’t like feeling anything for anyone, because then you’re [taking] a risk. There are stakes. And when there are stakes, you risk losing something and that’s just something he doesn’t want to do. And it was really counter intuitive for me initially because I was so used to him being just a bad guy, to sort of layer in or to have these layers, was difficult for me. (Laughs) And I was kind of worried. I was like “wait a minute! Damon’s going soft!” And then he tries to kill Jeremy and I was like oh yeah, never mind.

He’s not so soft.
He’s still a dick. Perfect!

(laughs)
But it’s a really cool journey and I think Kevin [Williamson] and Julie [Plec] don’t want Damon to be a one trick pony and that’s what is amazing and challenging all at the same time. And so this whole thing with Elena, it’s kind of funny, you know when you sit with your dog or your cat and you’re sitting there telling your dog or your cat all of your problems.

Naturally, of course.
It makes you feel better. When you talk to your plant, or your car. You know when you’re screaming in your car to no one –

Often.
It makes you feel better! You end up feeling better, and basically telling Elena that he loved her was cathartic. It was a wonderful moment for him. It allowed him to get it off his chest for a couple episodes.

Julie Plec: Is one of us supposed to be the dog in situation?
(laughs) If Nina were here, she’d be like “Wait which one of us is supposed to be the dog.”

[Ed Note: Ian then has to leave and says he's going to go be slammed against the wall and get something stuck in his neck. He returns a little later to talk again.]

How do you want to see the Damon and Elena relationship progress?
I just want to make out with her eventually. I mean, Stefan gets both of them. And I just think it’s time pay the fiddler. I have no idea how that’s ever going to happen, by the way. That’s a joke. I would just like to see him be in her [good] graces. I would just like for her to see that he’s not such a dick. But the problem is that he is. So, I don’t really know where I want that to go. All I know is that I want him to protect her. Because if something happens to her, then we lose the show, and then we’re screwed.

(laughs) Do you think Damon wants to save the day and be the hero?
Not really. No. I think he’s become the unlikely hero and it drives him up the fucking wall because it’s just too much. It’s one of those situations where it’s too much work being the hero. And also, it lends itself to not being fun — the social or family or love responsibility are the antithesis of selfish and free lovin’.

Can you tell us what you did for your birthday? [Ed. Note: A few journalists were on set shortly after his birthday]
I was here on set all day basically naked. I was naked. It was a shower scene and then I took about a three and a half hour bubble bath with a beautiful woman on set. Pretty much naked. And then munched on her a little bit and then I was brought a gigantic amazing cake by the crew and sang to as I’m in a bubble bath with a beautiful woman. And I launched my foundation, which is just the coolest thing. It was just the coolest thing ever. It really was such a memorable day. The energy floating around was just so palpable. It was really cool.

Birthday Ian was trending on Twitter.
I know. It’s crazy. I’m just so thankful to all of you guys — the media and the fans. It was a really powerful day. By the way, I was exhausted by the end of it. So I know that it was so full. It was just amazing. Awesome, awesome, awesome. I couldn’t have picked a better way to celebrate it. If I had to work, to be around this group of people, and to be naked all day with a gorgeous chick. It could be so much worse. It really could.

What has been your biggest challenge playing Damon?
The softer side of Sears. You know what I mean? It’s like (sings) “Come see the softer side of…Salvatore.” [Ed. Note: He has us all cracking up]
It’s tough, because there has to be truth and there’s a lot of real pain buried in that humor and that sort of the maniacal killer in him is starting to wane by virtue of the fact that again, not to sound like a broken record, all the stakes have been raised because he cares about people now. There are stakes.

Scoop on Stefan and Elenas Romantic getaway

Stefan Embraces Elena in Season 2, Episode 14: "Crying Wolf"

We found out last week that Stefan and Elena will attempt a romantic getaway during Episode,14, “Crying Wolf.” We say “attempt” because, as we all know, those two are never really safe. Still, with Katherine entombed and Elijah “doing his job,” you’d think a quick jaunt to Elena’s family lake house would be a-okay for the odd vampire-human couple, right? Wrong. “They just want to be a normal couple that goes on vacation,” Paul Wesley (Stefan) says. "Of course, danger is pursuing them.” Who woulda thunk?

The couple will also “have a capital-T talk about the logistics of a vampire-human relationship, Wesley adds, and the options aren't attractive,” according to TV Guide.

Oh no! That doesn’t mean they’re breaking up, does it? (Insert smirk from Delena fans.)

EW reveal 5 spoilers for the rest of season 2

Ok so there are five spoilerish plots outlined below there are some bits we already know but a few we dont so if you don't want to know what happens then DONT read on !!

1. Damon struggles with his humanity. And has sex. A lot. By the end of the January 27 eppy, we’ll know Rose's fate — and whether a vampire bite kills a werewolf. But EW says that's not exactly the big question anymore. The real issue here is who Damon cares about and “where [he] stands on the evil spectrum.” “He’s staring to feel,” Ian Somerhalder (Damon) said. “It throws him off, and it throws me off, because I love being that — for lack of a better word — complete dick.” Okay, we could totally make a bad pun to segue into this next spoiler, but we won’t. Let’s just sayTVD producer Kevin Williamson said this about Damon: “He’s a hot, sexy vampire. It just makes no sense for him not to have little toys. It’s time to start seeing Damon take some showers.” Ow ow!

2. Tyler finds out the truth. As in, he learns very quickly that Caroline has been lying to him about being the only vampire in Mystic Falls — putting a halt to their blossoming relationship. Boo!Stefan tries to convince Tyler that werewolves and vamps can totes get along, but when a big showdown between the two groups happens on February 3 followed by a retaliation on February 10, he’ll probably find that hard to believe. The good news? Um, well, we can’t think of any.

3. We see Stefan’s nasty side. Elena finds her pop John’s old journals on February 17. Then, another flashback to 1864 shows Stefan killing his father and turning Damon into a vamp for good. “His guilt is so deep that he goes off the deep end,” Paul Wesley (Stefan) says of the flashback. “We find out that he would have been Damon had it not been for one character.” Who? That’s one of those you have to watch to find out moments, for sure.

4. Bonnie makes an enemy — and loses a friend. And by ‘lose a friend’ we mean ‘gain a lover.’ Kat Graham (Bonnie) confirms that Bonnie will kiss Jeremy “sooner rather than later.” But all is not happy sunshiney hearts and rainbows for Bonnie. When she discovers that Luka and Jonas are working with Elijah, it totally breaks her trust. “She starts to try to learn more about who they are and accidentally makes an enemy where she shouldn’t,” TVD producer Julie Plec says. And by the February 24 eppy Bonnie is “ready to rumble.” Cant wait to see that!

5. Klaus comes to town. Still uncast Klaus will make his way to Mystic Falls before the end of the season. But both Elena and Katherine will have to do a little preparing beforehand. Stefan will eventually end up working with Elena’s “vampire-hating father” John (much to his chagrin) in order to get the scoop on the Originals. And what about Katherine, who’s been running from Klaus for, oh you know, 500 years? “Even though Katherine is stuck in the tomb, she’s still scheming,” says Nina Dobrev (Elena/Katherine). Of course she is. Of course.

Julie plec talks to TV guide about upcoming episode

"Evil is coming to Mystic Falls! Exec producer Julie Plec confirms to TV Guide Magazine that before the end of The Vampire Diaries' second season, viewers will get to meet Klaus — one of the original vampires. "We do not know anything about him other than that he's to be reckoned with and that no one's going to be safe when he gets to town," says Plec. "How he gets to town, when he gets to town, what he looks like when he gets to town — that's all part of the mystery."

But Plec isn't just being cagey. She tells us the character of Klaus keeps changing as the audition process progresses. "It's exciting to see a lot of new faces and try to figure out who we want that character to be and what kind of attitude we want him to have, what kind of charm we want him to have," she says. "That character is evolving even as we cast because we see a lot of things that we like and we think, 'Ooh, that's interesting. What an interesting take on the character.'"

While Plec and Kevin Williamson hunt for the perfect vampire, the January 27 episode promises to answer questions about the supernatural beings already shacking up in the small town. Last we saw, Bonnie (Katerina Graham) trusted new boy-witch Luka (Bryton James) in her quest to break the spell that causes a werewolf bite to kill vampires, but with the spell still firmly in place, is the legend true?

"There is a devolution of Rose's sanity and Rose's character, as a result of the bite, which brings a lot of danger into Elena's (Nina Dobrev) world and into everybody else's world," says Plec. "The follow up from that is going to be pretty extreme." And then there's werewolf Jules (Michaela McManus). "She knows now that Mason's dead, and she's going to have something to say about that. What she chooses to do and how she chooses to respond is big and it's bold, and it takes us for the next couple episodes on a journey that's pretty intense."

And, finally, there's some good news for Team Damon. "Elena and Stefan (Paul Wesley) are happily back together, but as a result of what Rose is going through, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Elena find themselves sort of thrown together, trying to deal with this invalid vampire," says Plec. "They go through a pretty rough emotional experience together which, of course, cements their relationship even further."

More new stills from season 2 episode 13 - daddy issues

So these are certainly wetting our appetites for upcoming episodes lol

Via The Vampire Diaries Network

New still for season 2 episode 13 - Daddy issues

So this looks like Stefan does "reach" out to Tyler as stated in the synopsis for the episode but in what way i wonder well we will find out in 16 days when this episode airs :D

Kevin Williamson teases on the rest of season 2

Are there any characters that have been particularly surprising for you in how much you started to enjoy writing for them?
All of them have surprised me in various ways. But I knew that this year was going to be aboutCaroline and Tyler — that we were going to have the werewolf storyline. We set it up last year. We said we’re going to do it, so we had to deliver on it. I knew Caroline was going to be a game-changer for me. I wanted the audience to root for her and love her. I wanted her to be the little vampire who could. and I thought she delivered, in spades. And she keeps astounding me. She keeps surprising me. I was hoping she had it in her, and boy, did she ever.

What’s in the future for Caroline and Tyler’s relationship? Will werewolf/vampire tensions drive them apart?
Yes, 100 percent. In the very next episode, things begin to unfold that don’t bode well for their budding relationship. Tyler starts asking questions and we’ll see that blow open. And don’t forget, there’s Matt waiting over there in the middle. So there’s a little triangle going between a human, a vampire, and a werewolf. Tyler got through his transformation, she was there for him. They sort of have this kinship now, of this curse. And now we take it to the next level and play it out. It’s very tragic.

Is it a doomed relationship from the start?
Oh my god. I wish I could squeal and tell you everything that will happen. But over the next three episodes, Julie and I were watching and — it gets tragic.

Will it continue into Season 3?
Well we end a chapter in the next three episodes with regard to a lot of things we set in motion. And then we begin the next chapter, which is leading us to the finale.

Could you kill off any major characters and still have a show left? Maybe not Stefanor Damon, but you could lose Elena or Katherine
I don’t know if anyone is ever going to buy that we’re going to kill Elena. She is the heart and soul of the show. And I don’t think I would spoil the show by killing Katherine. I think there’s too much juice there. I think that would be almost incredibly stupid on my part. We can do so much with these characters. Elena still has choices to make. There are things to do to these characters that you can still surprise the audience with.

Do you like what Caroline’s character has done to the tone of the show?
I love what Candice has done with the tone of the show. But it’s gonna get tragic. At the end of the season, not everyone will be standing.

You had to write out Caroline’s mother due to a leg injury. Did that interfere with the plot at all?
No, we figured it out. We just wrote her out of, I think, two episodes. We got around it. It was pretty easy.

Will Elena stay single for the rest of the season? What will happen to her romantically?
Is she single right now? Elena is always, no matter how single she is, she’s still standing there with Stefan. They’re a couple who have conflicts and they have a big one looming. They’re starting to truly disagree about how to handle things. But no, I wouldn’t stay she’s going to stay single by any means. I wouldn’t say she’s single now. She may be arguing or disagreeing with Stefan at the moment, but I don’t think they’re too far apart.

We’ve seen Katherine pass for Elena. Will we see Elena try to pass for Katherine?
There are some musical chairs that can go on in some fun ways, and also in some serious ways. We’re going to play some more of that. You’re probably going to see some more of that.

With whom is Damon naked in the bathtub in the previews we’ve seen?
I’m not going to tell you who’s joining him. That scene has not aired yet. It is Episode 13, I think. The thing is, we’ve built his bedroom now and we have his bathroom. It sort of makes its debut in Episode 12 — the next episode. So now we have a gorgeous rain shower and an amazing bathtub. And so, we’ll just think of all sorts of reasons for him to shower and just ponder his life.

In most vampire lore, you don’t see them bathe.
We just thought, he could have his existential crises in a shower and ponder all of eternity while having water cascading down his body. [Editor’s note: Hawt!]

Has any plot development surprised you with the way it worked out on screen?
Katherine. I never expected to see as much of Katherine as we did, because I thought it would be so difficult to film, with the same actress. And scheduling it takes time and money. But she was so delicious and such a great engine for storytelling that I couldn’t stay away. Her performance is what made me say, we’re going there.

Can you say anything more about when we’re going to see Klaus? What episode? Is he cast?
We’re not exactly sure what episode he’ll show up in. But I would venture to say — we have not cast him yet — and we’re heavily casting right now.

Are there candidates or a type you can reveal? A height? A race? An age?
I’ve got to be honest — there are about 100 auditions I need to go home and read through. There aren’t any types — I want that really great actor to surface, and then go, “Wow, I can write for him. He’ll work really well.”

Are you casting a name we already know or someone new?
We’re looking at both — people who might be familiar to an audience. But most importantly, we want the right actor. So I’m guessing it’ll probably be someone we don’t know.

Age-wise, would he be an age-appropriate mate for the characters you have?
Yes. Keep in mind, Klaus is someone who in his history seduced Katherine in Bulgaria. So he would have been someone suitable for her. Not an old man. And by old on the CW, I mean 31. Hey, I’m 45.

Since you’re talking about casting, how do you feel about the article in Newsweekthat said Hollywood is not casting gay actors in gay roles?
I just look at the actors when they come in to audition. Whether they’re gay or not, I don’t ask them. That’s not how it works.

The article’s point is that out actors who everyone knows are out are not getting cast in leading roles. Would it have concerned you to cast an out gay man as Damon or Stefan for fear the audience wouldn’t accept them?
I’m at a place in my life where I’m over that. Bring me the right actor. That’s for someone else to worry about. That’s not my issue. My issue is telling the story, making the best show possible, and finding the best actor who will marry himself to my writing. And I could give a rat’s ass if he’s gay, straight or whatever.

Would network executives interfere?
I don’t know. I’ve never come across this situation. I’d love it and I’m all for it. I’m gay as a goose, so bring it on. Bring me a gay actor who’s perfect for the part, and he’ll get it.

Are there any gay vampires to show up on the show?
All vampires are gay in my mind. We’ve got to get some in Mystic Falls. But I have to kill some people off first. We’ve got to make room for them. I keep envisioning a world in which I can get Caroline’s dad in there. Because he’s a founding family member, and we’ve already established him as being gay. I think it would be great to have a fierce gay man come in there and run that council. I don’t think we’ll get around to it this season. You want to do it right — you can’t just bring him in to bring him in.

Are we looking at a Moldavian bloodbath at the end of this season then?
No, not that bad. The gay thing about leading men and women, that’s a tough and very important issue. I remember the union had a whole panel about that at one point. I’ve got friends who are out there, plugging away.

Jane Lynch was very honest and provocative the other night, because she said she doesn’t think that middle America is ready to accept a gay actor in the leading role. She feels like [viewers] need to be able to project their romantic aspirations 100% on that person. So if they know that actor’s gay, they’re going to have a hard time. She also went on to say that she thought network suits would have that fear.
If you really cast the right actor for the right role, it’s not a problem.

Maybe we don’t have enough out actors yet who fit the leading man persona.
There is a small pool of our actors, I can only think of 3 or 4. And then if you say which one of them is a leading man, then it narrows. Because there is a difference between a character actor and a leading man. The good thing is, I also work for the CW, and they’re all about diversity. They want us to cast them, cast them, cast them. That’s a badge of honor for them. Every time I cast a role, it’s always about where’s the diversity.

Is it more acceptable for vampires to be gay? So you have carte blanche on your show?
I think vampires are gay anyway. Like I think the whole werewolf story is one big coming-out metaphor. So making him gay is almost too on the nose.

Ian somerhalder tweets pic of Damons "new girlfriend"

Nina and Candice at the TCA's "kick ass ladies of CW" panel

so they were the cute pics of Nina and Candice here are some little bits of gossip they shared :

Nina on being snowed in and how they passed the time :

"We're actually working on a [Funny or Dievideo] right now," Nina told E!’s Kriston dos Santos before the panel. "When we were snowed in, in Georgia, we were twiddling our thumbs. We didn't know what to do. So we got a camera and we shot a couple things. A bunch of us. Myself and other cast members. If it's funny, you just might see it!" Let’s hope so, Nina!

Nina on what to expect from the rest of season 2 :

"Nina promises that after the hiatus is over (January 27, what what!) we’ll see “a lot of Damon and Stefansaving the day. A lot of new characters coming in — one who has been anticipated for a long time is coming." That character? Klaus, obvi! "Klaus is coming at some point by the end of the season," Nina promises to E!

Nina on her surprising choice for who should play Klaus :

"I think it'd be awesome if it was Sasha Baron Cohen using his Austrian accent," Nina says with a laugh, imitating SBC: "Like, ‘Hello, my name is Klaus. How are you? I want to suck your blood.' I think it'd be great if he is the opposite of what everyone is expecting."

Candice on werewolves versus vampires :

"We're going to be introduced to more werewolf action and the meeting of vampires and werewolves and how they are going to play a part in each other's lives," Candice Accola details to E!"And [we'll see] how that affects personal relationships with the friends within the town."
